The North Cumberland Fire Department employs fourteen fulltime union firefighters and the Chief of the Department. The department is a combination department, therefore utilizing 8 call firefighters.

North Cumberland Fire is governed by a District Board of Trustee's. Day to day business is administered by the Chief of the Department.

The Town of Cumberland is broken down into four seperate Fire Districts, protecting approximately 33, 000 residents. All four districts respond on automatic aid to the other three in emergency situations or at the request of the officer in charge of the shift.

The Department has four shifts with three firefighters working two ten hour days and two fourteen hour night s followed by four days off. The Chief, Deputy Chief and Fire Marshal all work five eight hour days, Monday through Friday.
